Rotork CK actuators ordered for major effluent treatment upgrade in Turkey

Rotork has won a significant order for CK modular electric actuators to provide an environmentally friendly and safe solution for the disposal of final effluent in Turkey.

Nearly 100 actuators will control the flow on the Ergene Basin Deep Marine Discharge Project, which will be one of the longest sea discharge lines in Europe, starting in the city of Tekirdag and serving the Turkish capital Istanbul.

The project involves the construction of a 4,500 metre long discharge line 50 metres below sea level. This will be achieved using a steel pipe with a 2,200 mm diameter in conjunction with collecting lines, tunnels and a system which will allow for wastewater discharge to be connected from the Ergene Basin Industrial Estate Joint Wastewater Treatment Plants to the Marmara Sea.

The customer chose CK electric actuators to operate penstocks at the wastewater treatment plants due to the product’s technical capabilities, competitive pricing and short delivery time.

Rotork’s watertight CK range of actuators are suitable for all valves in non-hazardous locations and can operate under the stress of high temperatures and strong vibrations by using separately mounted controls. It offers a direct output torque range of 10 to 500 Nm (7 to 369 lbf.ft), with a maximum torque when combined with a multi-turn gearbox up to 10,800 Nm (8,000 lbf.ft) and a maximum torque with a quarter-turn gearbox as high as 205,600 Nm (151,6000 lbf.ft).

Double sealing is used around both parts of the plug and socket connection to maintain the actuator’s IP68 watertight standard – it can be submerged at a depth of eight metres for up to 96 hours. The CK can operate in a standard temperature range of -30 °C to +70 °C (-22 °F to +158 °F), with a low temperature option of -40 °C to +60 °C (-40 °F to +140 °F) also available, the CK complies with actuator standards EN15714-2, ISO 5210, MSS SP 102 and manual handwheel operation standard EN12570.
